Itzel Castro is a Mexican-American writer from the Salinas Valley. Her work focuses on the intersection between agriculture and public health affecting the farmworker community in the 'Salad Bowl of the World'.
She aims to shed light on environmental racism. Castros’ writing has appeared on UN News, VOMB and other publications. She is a CCMA winner.
She holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from the City University of New York, her thesis focused on the Mexican diaspora. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from San José State University where she founded El Espartano, the first on-campus Spanish publication.
She is currently working for the Monterey County Health Department.
